The American University School for Pre-K through Grade 5 opened in September 2013. A separate middle school for Grades 6-8 will open for the 2014-2015 academic year, and eventually, a fully accredited high school for grades 9-12 will be available to students. AUS offers small class sizes with the latest educational materials and interactive technology.

The academic curriculum of the American University School is based on the Common Core American Standards Curriculum. These standards clearly communicate what is expected of students at each grade level. The Common Core Standards focus on conceptual understandings and procedures starting in the early grades for reading, mathematics, science and social studies, enabling teachers to have the time needed to teach core concepts and procedures, and giving students the opportunity to master them.

In addition to a full range of course offerings for Pre-K through Grade 5 in 2013, a variety of after-school programs are available. These activities include sports, computer/tablet applications classes, music, academic enrichment and French, among others. The school will eventually showcase an in-house video production lab that will provide television studio broadcasts within the school. Courses in robotics, Auto CAD, computer art, and digital photography, as well as drama and music classes, will also be offered at the secondary level.

The school provides a 1:1 tablet program, with a high speed Wi-Fi network that allows educators and students to take advantage of this pedagogical change in the way that information is provided in a school setting. The ultimate goal of using technology in teaching is the effective transmission of information through that technology, based on the realization of how the brain functions and how students learn today. The students at AUS collaborate wirelessly through a combination of tablets, teacher podcasts for enhanced comprehension, digital texts - no longer carrying heavy book bags - and engaging in higher order thinking activities. These fundamental changes mean a paradigm shift in the way technology operates within the school, and as used by educators, parents and students. This allows discovery of new ways to impart to students the skills they will need in the 21st century. The school technology team is focused on inquiry-based learning and monitors success as we gather data to help future student achievement & development.
